Inspection of Reinforced Aerated Autoclaved Concrete (RAAC) & Stabilisation Works
Project Overview
The project focused on the inspection and subsequent stabilisation works of Reinforced Aerated Autoclaved Concrete (RAAC) in multiple sites within a school, following concerns raised by the Trust regarding the structural integrity of the building materials used.
Design & Engineering
Upon conducting a thorough inspection, we discovered that several areas of the school contained RAAC in a severely dilapidated state. This alarming finding necessitated immediate action, leading to the closure of certain sections of the school to ensure the safety of all occupants. To facilitate this, we implemented temporary stabilisation measures, which included the strategic placement of props to support the affected structures.
Conclusion
Through our detailed inspection and responsive design approach, we successfully identified the issues associated with RAAC and implemented effective stabilisation measures to safeguard the school's occupants. The collaboration with the school has resulted in a strategic plan for permanent solutions, ensuring a secure and conducive learning environment for students and staff alike.
